Dean Butler

Dean is an experienced consumer brands marketing executive, closing in on 40 years of experience. He was the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Lens Crafters (1983-88) and Founder, Chairman and CEO of the Vision Express Group in Europe, Asia and South America (1988-1997). Most of the Vision Express businesses were merged with the French retail group GPS to form Grand Vision in late 1997.
Dean served as a Director of 1800 CONTACTS from January 1998 until the company was sold in late 2007. In addition, he is an Owner and Director of Vision Express Holdings, an operator of optical stores in the Philippines, Guam, Australia and Singapore. His earlier career included fourteen years of brand management experience with Procter & Gamble (1969-1982).

James Chen is the visionary behind Adlens®, the company he founded in 2005. James Chen is the Chairman of Wahum Group Holdings, based in Lagos, Nigeria, a manufacturer of enamelware, building materials and cardboard packaging. James is also CEO of Family Office Legacy Advisors Ltd.
James chairs The Chen Yet-Sen Foundation, named after his father. He is founder of the Hong Kong Chapter of Bring Me a Book, an NGO promoting early childhood literacy. James is Co-Founder and Owner of Adlens® Ltd. and the Founder of the Vision for a Nation Foundation, an NGO.
James is also the Chairman of the China Exploration and Research Society, dedicated to conserving the culture and bio-diversity of China, a long standing member of the Outward Bound Trust of Hong Kong, past president of Young Entrepreneur’s Organisation, Hong Kong Chapter and current member of Young Presidents Organisation, Hong Kong Chapter.

Mike assumed the management of the Adlens® Group of companies in September of 2011. Mike has a track-record in driving rapid growth and performance improvements, having worked in the fields of biotechnology, retail and consumer products, office furniture and instrumentation solutions.
As former CEO and President of Microfluidics International Corporation he achieved double-digit growth in three years. As CEO of X-Rite Inc. he led the corporation’s re-emergence as the global leader of its industry, and as CEO of Marine Optical Ltd, a CitiCorp Venture Capital equity company, he doubled the business in eight years.
Mr. Ferrara has a degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University and has received executive management certificates from Harvard Business School and Carnegie Mellon University. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of Villanova University’s School of Engineering.

Mike is one of the three founders of IDEO, a world leader in design and process innovation. Since moving to the States in 1980, he has made a significant impact in the world of design, most notably by strengthening the visual appeal of technology products. His contributions have drawn corporate attention to the use of design as a source of strategic competitive advantage. From 1983 to 1991, Mike’s internationally recognised firm, Matrix, won more than twenty design awards. Mike then joined forces with David Kelley Design and ID Two to form IDEO.
Since then, he has led development efforts resulting in hundreds of successful computer, consumer, and medical products. In the process, Mike has built long-term working relationships with many major corporations in the US, Europe, Korea and China. Mike managed IDEO Ventures, a multimillion-dollar internal venture capital fund making strategic equity and royalty investments in IDEO’s client partners. Mike has taught at a number of colleges including a course at Stanford University on Advanced Product Design and Human Factors.
He holds a BA degree in Industrial Design from Leicester College of Art & Design and an MA degree from the Royal College of Art in London. Currently, Mike is involved in a variety of consulting and entrepreneurial activities.
Hamilton Tang

Hamilton received his JD/MBA from Harvard Law School/Business School in 1991. After 5 years with Morgan Stanley’s investment banking division in New York and Hong Kong, he embarked on an entrepreneurial career. Hamilton was an investor and co-CEO of Hong Kong’s largest multiplex cinema chain and also started several related businesses – ticketing, film production/distribution and family amusement centres.
In 2000, Hamilton joined the Simon Murray group. Mr. Murray is the former CEO of Hong Kong’s most respected conglomerate, Hutchison Whampoa, led by Hong Kong’s most recognised business leader, Mr. Li KaShing.
Today he oversees an investment and asset management business with over US$300 million in assets under management and interests across Asia, particularly in Greater China and Japan. These interests include investments in private and listed companies as well as discrete property interests.

John joined Adlens® in August 2013 to pursue opportunities for all product platforms in new markets. He has decades of experience in the optical industry. He has been involved in marketing and sales of optical lenses, sunglasses, reading glasses and ophthalmic eyewear. The variable focus product along with the Fluid-Injection lens technology offers many unique marketing opportunities to get vision products to consumers in order to fill the changing demands of the visual need of today’s eyeglass wearer. His background in optical along with his industry knowledge provide a solid foundation for finding new markets for vision correction products.

Kate joined Adlens® in November 2011 to implement and develop the Company HR function. Kate has over 17 years corporate HR and training experience initially gained within Marks and Spencer and more latterly in a wide range of SME’s in the IT, Pharmaceutical, Engineering and Retail industries. Kate’s background is in generalist HR and she has led a variety of projects including employee development, business restructures, benefit reviews, recruitment and engagement campaigns and has a wide range of experience in handling employee issues on a global basis.
Having worked in organisations with an employee base ranging from a handful to many thousand, Kate mostly enjoys working in smaller teams in changing environments where employee engagement is key to success. In her role at Adlens® she works collaboratively with the leadership team to support employee and business success.
Kate is CIPD qualified and has a BSc in Biology with Management from Imperial College – University of London.
Florence Cheng

Florence has over 10 years’ experience in strategic planning and new business development. Driven by her strong passion for launching new brands and quality products in the Asia Pacific region, she was a leading member in setting up the Hong Kong regional office and/or China local subsidiary for brands such as Stefanel, United Colors of Benetton, Ben Sherman and Liu.Jo. Florence also has experience in market entry, licensing and franchising within Asia Pacific.
Florence has a bachelor degree in Business Administration and an MBA (concentrating in China business) from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is active in charity activities and has volunteered short-term in Nepal, China, Thailand and Jordan.

David Eichelberger, joined Adlens® in 2012 as Director of U.S. Sales. David is a 30+ year industry professional who has held management positions with several of the largest companies in the industry. David also owns North American Vision Associates a sales, sales management and sales consulting company. David comes from an Optical family. His father was an optical industry pioneer and he has a brother and two sons that work in the industry. David has a tremendous working knowledge of both lenses and frames and understands all channels of distribution in the industry.

Christine Fraser

Christine joined Adlens® in May 2012 and is our Director of Customer Success. With international experience working throughout Europe and Asia Pacific, Christine’s background is in commercialisation of new technologies.
After an early career in mechanical engineering at TTP Christine realised her passion was in product management and customer focused new product development. After working for Arlec Australia between 2002 and 2005 developing new product categories and expanding their product portfolio Christine returned to the UK to work as a Product Manager at Atrium Innovation, an Oxfordshire start-up. Atrium was successfully sold to Sumitomo Chemical Company of Japan in 2009.
As Director of Customer Success Christine oversees our Product Management, Marketing and Customer Services departments. As well as having responsibility for the successful relationships with our key distributors and our Boston office. At Adlens® Christine and her team help ensure our customers are successful and their success will become our success.
Christine has an award winning 1st Class Master’s Degree in Product Design Engineering from the University of Glasgow and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Open University.
Frank Lavety

Frank joined Adlens® as Vice President of Operations in January 2012 and is a senior Manufacturing and Operations Executive with a wealth of international experience developed across Europe, China, Asia Pacific and the Americas.
After an early career in manufacturing and supply chain management with Haemonetics Corporation, both in the UK and United States, Frank joined Wolfson Microelectronics PLC in March 2001 as Operations Manager and in 2007 he was appointed Vice President of Operations.
During his ten years at Wolfson, Frank was instrumental in developing Wolfson’s brand as a leading global supplier of mixed-signal semiconductors, manufacturing in excess of 1.5 billion products for consumer electronics applications. The company was successfully floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2003 and reached a market capitalisation exceeding $1bn in 2005.
Frank holds an Honours Degree from Strathclyde University’s Business School and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, also from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

Graeme MacKenzie, DPhil, joined Adlens® in 2006 as principal clinical scientist. Graeme is an optometrist and came to Adlens® following a number of years working as a university lecturer specialising in optics and binocular vision. Graeme led the design of the World Bank funded Child Vision Study on variable focus eyewear and, through his knowledge of the human visual system and the eyecare profession, contributes to the regulatory, marketing, design and training aspects of Adlens® business in his role as Director of Industry Affairs.
Ash Mehta

Ash has over 20 years international finance experience in sectors including healthcare, business to business, software and industrials. He started his career in large companies such as Eli Lilly and Parexel International, where he was FD of a $100m business unit, before moving into FD roles in smaller public companies.
Most recently, he was Finance Director of Northbridge Industrial Services plc. He joined soon after IPO and helped the company grow from revenues of £7m to over £30m in four years, both organically and by acquisition. After stepping down as FD he was asked to remain on the board of Northbridge as a non-executive director.
His broad experience includes numerous international roles covering operations finance, fundraising, acquisitions, disposals, and investor relations. During his career he has also been Strategy Director of a quoted software business directing a strategic review process which led to the sale of the company.
Ash initially qualified as a pharmacist at the University of Bradford before joining KPMG in London to train as a chartered accountant.
Yoshinobu Nakashima

Yoshinobu Nakashima was appointed President of Adlens® Japan K.K. in October 2010, and is charged with developing the company, launching new innovative products in various distribution channels and raising the company and product recognition in the Japanese market.
Yoshi has a proven track record of marketing global and local brands in OTC/pharmaceutical and fast moving consumer goods industries over 20 years. He has held a series of marketing and sales management roles, with companies including Pfizer, Novartis, Mars, and Nu Skin. He also engaged in business development activities resulting in forming two joint-venture companies – Novartis KAO and Chugai MSD (Merck & Co.).
Having led brands in both mature and developing environments, Yoshi has expertise in developing new business models, distribution channels, categories, brands, and markets.
Yoshi earned a B.S. degree in Marketing and Computer Science from Northwest Missouri State University.
Tom Rosewall

Tom joined Adlens® as its Vice President for Strategic Alliances in 2012, and is a senior executive with nearly three decades of experience with successfully integrating and growing emerging global companies.
As COO of X-Rite, Inc., he joined CEO Michael C. Ferrara in leading the corporation’s re-emergence as the global leader of its industry. As Vice President for Westinghouse Electric, Knoll International, and a division of National Steel, he accelerated early revenue growth, profitability and global scaling. His involvement with the State of California’s leading climate change initiatives led to his founding of two software companies that supported emerging environmental regulation compliance.
Tom earned his masters degree at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington, DC, having earlier received degrees in international economics and physical geography from the University of California’s at Davis. Tom has lived and worked in Europe for nearly twenty years, where he has been responsible for both local and global corporate activities on behalf of the companies referenced above.
Dr Rob Stevens

Rob Stevens, an Oxford University DPhil in Physics, joined Adlens® permanently in May 2008 with responsibility for overseeing research, development and manufacturing of new products. Rob started his career as a design engineer with US giant Pitney Bowes. Rob worked in new product development and marketing in the US and Europe.
Subsequently, working both through Oxford University and his own company, PS Research, Rob spent a number of years in powertrain research for automotive companies including Shell, Jaguar Land-Rover, and Williams F1.
