Adaptive eyeglasses were developed by Prof. Joshua Silver of Oxford University. His concepts are the basis for Adlens' development efforts.

Adaptive eyeglasses have lenses that can change power. As such, one pair fits most people's needs for distance, close work and reading. Adaptive lenses are constructed differently than normal, solid lenses. Adaptive lenses have a fluid-filled interior; changing the volume of fluid in the lens changes its shape, and therefore its power.

Adaptive eyeglasses are easy and intuitive to use. The lens power changes with the turn of a dial, allowing users to quickly and accurately find their best correction. People all over the world, including throughout the developing world, have used adaptive eyeglasses successfully.

Adaptive eyeglasses are safe, provided the user follows the fitting protocol to achieve best possible correction. They are simple lenses that either increase or decrease power.

Adaptive eyeglasses are cared for just like ordinary eyeglasses — protect them from scratching, store them in their holder when not in use, and clean with soft lens cloths.
